Edward C. Shoman papers, 1930-2003 (bulk 1947-2003)

The papers cover the years 1930 and 1947 to 2003. They contain materials relating to the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, off-the-road tires, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, and Shoman's 34 years of employment with the company including his time as the marketing manager of big tire sales. The bulk of the collection consists of photographs, both professional and amateur, in a variety of formats including photographic slides, negatives, and prints. These images document various topics including business gatherings, tools and equipment, and vehicles featuring Goodyear products. Some of these items do not include identification of the people in the photographs or the date or location of the event. The collection also includes videotapes of off-the-road tires and earthmoving equipment. The papers also contain various published and printed materials that were written by or about the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and/or off-the-road tires. Articles written by or about Edward C. Shoman are also included in the papers in addition to his personal business card directory, which provides information about the business contacts and operations of his division. Finally, the papers include correspondence, reports, and diaries that document the business and sales side of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company during Shoman's employment. There are also a couple three-dimensional artifacts that document the company and the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline.

Edward Chapman Shoman was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1919. He was raised in and became a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Master Sergeant. After his military service, he gained employment at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1947.
